Beginning July 29th, 2026, residents can borrow a “Team Up to Clean Up” litter kit from any Delaware County Libraries’ location—just like checking out a book. Available to anyone with a Delaware County Libraries’ card, these kits provide an easy way for residents to earn volunteer hours, take pride in their neighborhoods, and become part of the solution to litter.
Delaware County is planning to spend a nearly $5 million infusion of federal monies to open a countywide composting center in Chester Township and a household hazardous waste collection site in Broomall.
Haverford Township will start collecting kitchen waste for composting July 13. It will distribute 900 free countertop compost collectors and 2,500 free 5-gallon buckets for curbside pickup at the township building from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 14.
The Pennsylvania Resources Council, a statewide environmental organization dedicated to the vision of a Pennsylvania where nothing is wasted, will offer a variety of events this year in Delaware County to celebrate April as “Earth Month.” The events will include topics such as stormwater management, composting, waste reduction, landscaping with native plants, and sustainable lifestyles.
The League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County recently presented a webinar program on the concept of zero waste and what it means for mediating climate change. Presenter Alex Danovitch explained how we can move from a linear economy – the extraction of the raw materials, production of a product, and its distribution, use and ultimate disposal as waste and pollution – to a circular economy where we can keep reusing, recycling and transforming the components of a product to keep them out of incinerators and landfills. The Jeanette Ross Environment Lecture for 2026 is titled; What is Zero Waste and Why Is It a Critical Climate Strategy? It will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, 7:00 PM via Zoom. The presenter is Alex Danovitch principal consultant at Nothing Left to Waste and Director of Strategy and Business Development for Recycle Ann Arbor.
The Delaware County Council has accepted the county Sustainability Commission’s zero waste plan that promises to work towards an 82% reduction in solid waste, increase the efficiency of the county’s waste disposal practices and reduce costs.
The Delaware County Office of Sustainability will be hosting the 4th Annual Delaware County Sustainability Conference the week of June 9th – 14th, 2025, as a hybrid event! this year’s conference will blend the enthusiasm and energy of the previous events, while improving accessibility and casting a wider net to allow more community members to take part in the conference.
Topics will be centered around the County’s six sustainability focus areas of natural resources, energy and efficiencies, transportation, zero waste, climate resiliency and health and wellness.
Transition Town Greater Media is more than an environmental organization, it is also tackling economic and social issues on a local, hands-on scale in and around Delaware County’s seat.
