CRCQL campaigns ahead of Philly City Council vote on Reworld contract
The “Stop Trashing Our Air Act” (Bill 250768) is scheduled to be voted on by Philadelphia City Council next Thursday, April 9 at 10 a.m. This bill would ban Philly from burning their trash in Chester City at Reworld/Covanta, the largest trash incinerator in the U.S. and one of the biggest polluters in our region. CRCQL plans a rally and a “die-in” in Philadelphia ahead of the vote. The current waste contract expires on June 30.
In anticipation of this vote, CRCQL is asking all its members, allies and friends to support this bill by contacting City Councilmembers and Mayor Parker (call script), give comment and/or join us at one of the following actions below. There are many ways you can publicize this bill and help get the word out!
Friday, April 3 at 3:30pm – CRCQL member and musician Bigga Dre will be hosting an event at The Rotunda (4014 Walnut St.) to generate awareness about the Stop Trashing Our Air Act (STOA)! Join us for music and help educate the public about the importance of this bill.
Tuesday, April 7 at 9:30am – CRCQL will be having a Die-In Protest outside Philadelphia City Hall on 4/7 to demonstrate the devastating health consequences of living next to the largest trash incinerator in the U.S. where Philly currently sends 1/3 of its waste to be burned. RSVP HERE. CRCQL will be honoring the victims of cancer and respiratory illness at this protest with signs. If you cannot attend, but would like the group to honor your loved one, please contact them below.
