Bill to protect PA native species of pollinators and other insects passes House
HB 441, a bill to protect more than 100 species of natives insects, including many pollinators, passed the Pennsylvania House by a party-line vote of 102-101. It now goes to the Republican-controlled Senate. Write or email your state senators and ask them to support it.
According to the bill, the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources would be directed to conduct investigations on “wild native terrestrial invertebrates” to collect information relating to population, distribution, habitat needs, limiting factors and other biological and ecological data to classify terrestrial invertebrates and to determine management measures necessary for their continued ability to sustain themselves successfully.
By protecting the state’s wild insect life, the bill would also protect the pollinators that ensure that native plant species can thrive. Delaware County’s state senators are John Kane (D. 8th Senatorial District) and Tim Kearney, (D. 26th Senatorial District).
