6th Annual Environmental Justice Day March Saturday, May 2

CRCQL announces its 6th annual ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE DAY MARCH & Caravan, happening THIS Saturday May 2 at 11:30AM. Caravan means those of you who cannot walk the 2.5-mile march route can drive in your cars behind the marchers.

Join CRCQL and our allies this Saturday as we march for clean air and justice for Chester City, Delaware County and all communities impacted by pollution. Together we celebrate the pride of our city and vision for a healthy and green future without waste incineration. More details are below.

On Saturday, we will meet outside Chester City Hall (1 E. 4th St) at 11:30am, and the march begins promptly at 12pm. There is a shuttle van available for those with mobility issues, and a car caravan that will follow marchers for those who prefer to drive. Together, we will march to Reworld (formerly Covanta) trash incinerator at Front & Thurlow Street (approx. 2.5 miles). WHY WE MARCH:

Residents in Chester have a higher likelihood of having asthma, cancer and other illnesses due to the high levels of industrial pollution in the area. The largest polluter in our city and Delaware County is Reworld/Covanta trash incinerator. Built in 1992, it is the largest incinerator in the United States, and burns up to 3,500 tons of trash daily from NYC, Philadelphia, Delaware County and other locations.  CRCQL and allies are currently rallying behind the Stop Trashing Our Air bill, presented by Philly Councilmember Gauthier, to end Philly’s burning of trash in Chester. We will be bringing attention to this bill at the march.

In addition, new polluting industries continue to be proposed for the region, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminals and hydrogen hubs. The EJ March will call attention to this environmental racism and demand our leaders to prioritize our health. We remain vigilant in our fight for justice and clean air – join us!
