Delco Woods
Delco Woods is the name given to the newest Delaware County Park, acquired in 2022 from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia after a decades-long and often contentious battle to save it from development. Formerly housing the Don Guanella adult living community and nursing home, the property comprises 213 acres of largely unspoiled wilderness. Delco Woods will be the largest park in the county system.
The site in Marple has become a major political issue because Marple residents want the entire tract used for open space while the County Council has voted 4-1 to use existing buildings to house a crisis facility to provide mental health services.
