Delaware County is home to roughly 576,000 residents, making it the 2nd most densely populated County in Pennsylvania. Delaware County operates under a Home Rule Charter which designates the authority to pass ordinances, resolutions, and proclamations, and to provide budgets to a five-member County Council. Serving under County Council, with direction from the Executive Director, Delaware County’s 62 departments employ staff to perform services and to meet the needs of Delaware County. Office of Sustainability
The Delaware County Office of Sustainability was formed in 2021 with the mission of making Delaware County and its operations more sustainable and resilient to the effects of climate change. In August 2023, the Office of Sustainability, with support from the Sustainability Commission, published the first-ever Sustainability Plan, a comprehensive roadmap to advance the County’s efforts which is intended to become a living document, with regular updates as we chart the path forward. The Sustainability Commission was formed in 2020, to provide reviews and recommendations to County Council and relevant departments regarding the preservation and protection of the natural and cultural environment of the county.
