SUMMARY:Plants Out of Place: Communicating Effectively About Invasive Species ($ Pay what you wish)
DESCRIPTION:The past\, present\, and future of invasive plants in our ecosystems is defined by human actions and notions of stewardship. Yet\, public skepticism and mistrust towards the field of invasion biology have been heightened by pervasive criticism from within the social sciences\, humanities\, popular media\, and by extension\, the general public. \nThanks to support from the Richard King Mellon Foundation\, Dr. Mason Heberling initiated a new project at Carnegie Museum of Natural History focused on increasing public awareness of invasive plants. During this webinar\, Dr. Heberling will share outcomes and some lessons learned in connection to the changing scientific perspectives on the categorization and perceived threats of invasive plants and highlight the need for updated\, inclusive communication strategies. \nAs an added feature\, this program will highlight these strategies\, experiments\, and collaborations that led to a new museum exhibition\, Uprooted: Plants Out of Place. This exhibition integrates historical-scientific narratives through archival objects and museum specimens. It also recontextualizes the museum’s Hall of Botany of plant-centric dioramas dating from the 1920s that portray idealized plant communities devoid of—including the role of human responsibility and agency\, invasive plants as passengers\, the role of language in shaping attitudes\, and other cultural points of view. \nThis program is part of our ongoing gardening series offering a varied focus on native plants throughout the seasons for gardeners of all levels and learning styles. The 2026 “Misunderstood Natives” theme aims to explore diverse perceptions of native plants\, inviting audiences to see them through a new lens—one that offers fresh insights and practical tools for understanding the value native species bring to people\, wildlife\, and the places we live.

SUMMARY:Here Comes the Sun (Clean Energy for All Webinar)
DESCRIPTION:Here comes the sun… but it needs your help! \nSolar energy projects have been proposed across Pennsylvania at the utility-scale level\, meaning that they are large enough to send power to our electric grid. Unfortunately\, these promising projects are often stopped at the local level\, sometimes after planning and permitting processes have already made significant progress. Even well-intentioned local municipalities can be a barrier to renewable energy adoption since they can control local land use. Much of this resistance is driven by misinformation. \nThe good news is that you can play a role in ensuring that your neighbors know the facts and understand the benefits of bringing more clean energy to our communities! \nIn this next episode of the Clean Energy for All series\, we’ll discuss why solar energy projects are good for our communities\, how to combat misinformation and work with local governments to secure project approvals\, and highlight specific projects in the state that need your voice right now! \nYou will also hear about Sierra Club volunteers whose efforts advocating for a pending solar project had a direct impact on securing local government support. Learn more about the recent victory in Centre County from the Sierra Club Moshannon Group in this month’s issue of the Sylvanian (link pending). \nAre you ready to speak up for solar energy? Join us on February 25th to bring some sunshine to this long\, cold\, lonely winter. \nSun\, sun\, sun… Here we come! \nRegister

SUMMARY:Clean Air Council’s Air Monitoring Review
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to join the Clean Air Council’s Air Monitoring meeting on February 25th from 6:30-7:30pm. Click Here to Register for the Zoom Meeting \nFor the last year Clean Air Council\, in partnership with Marcus Hook Area Neighbors for Public Health\, has gathered and interpreted real-time air quality data from nearly 60 Purple Air monitors installed across South and Southwest Philadelphia and Southern Delaware County. In this meeting we will share data analysis updates with our community air monitor hosts and supporters\, and highlight how community-based observations match up with real-time data collection. \nWe will also discuss how local residents and air monitor hosts living within close proximity to industrial facilities and polluting industries can share their experiences. Reporting air quality concerns is a simple but effective way to be an advocate for cleaner air. The more specific the information we have from impacted residents the better we can identify local pollution patterns\, trends\, and sources\, as well as support ongoing advocacy. \nJoin us in our next meeting on February 25th to learn about current air pollution trends\, how to report air pollution concerns\, and how to advocate for clean and healthy air in our communities! \nSign up here to register for our meeting on Wednesday\, February 25th at 6:30pm

SUMMARY:Radnor EAC Lecture Series 2026: Intro to Low-Waste Living with Kimberley Bezak
DESCRIPTION:Presented by Kimberley Bezak\, SHIFT co-founder.  SHIFT is a women-owned neighborhood shop in Narberth that helps local households reduce waste through refillable everyday products\, thoughtfully curated secondhand goods\, and hands-on education. \nRather than offering abstract sustainability advice\, SHIFT focuses on realistic actions that work within our region’s infrastructure: how waste is collected\, what can actually be recycled\, and where reuse makes the most sense locally. In this introductory talk\, co-founder Kimberley Bezak breaks down where household waste really comes from and which changes have the biggest impact for families in the Main Line area. \nAttendees will learn how to avoid common greenwashing traps\, make smarter purchasing decisions\, and build habits that fit real schedules and local resources. This talk is ideal for anyone curious about sustainability who wants clear\, practical guidance without guilt or perfectionism. \nPlease join us…there is no registration.
