SUMMARY:Too Hot to Learn Rally
DESCRIPTION:As students head back to school\, Philadelphia-area families are confronting a new reality: climate change is making summers hotter and longer\, with dangerous heat lasting well into the school year. Students and teachers in sweltering classrooms are forced to dismiss early or go remote because of extreme heat. Furthermore\, federal attacks on clean energy and climate protections are moving us in the wrong direction by driving up energy costs and worsening climate chaos. \n  \nJoin us for the Back to School but Too Hot to Learn Rally \nSaturday\, August 22\, 2026\n1:00 pm\nPhiladelphia City Hall (North Apron) \n  \nGlenn Hurricane Schwartz and Councilmember Nic O’Rourke will join educators and youth advocates to call attention to the growing risks climate change poses to students\, as well as the urgent need for policies to protect their health and future. We will drive home the message that it’s time to invest in clean energy\, strengthen climate resilience\, and put the health and safety of our communities ahead of polluters. All attendees 18 and under will receive a back to school “cooling kit” with tools to keep them safe on hot days.  \nRSVP HERE

SUMMARY:Stewardship Saturdays - volunteers needed!
DESCRIPTION:Stewardship Saturdays are open events that welcomes all visitors to take part in a hands on experience of creating better habitats for wildlife on the Refuge. Folks will meet at the Visitor’s Center where they will meet and then work with experienced “Weed Warriors” who will teach them about removing invasive plants and or planting native plants to improve native plant diversity and/or food sources for wildlife.
