Learn from the experts! Winter sowing is a simple, efficient and inexpensive way to add plants to your garden. You don’t need a lot of space or grow lights to grow hardy seedlings in containers outside.
Discover the joy of supporting pollinators while creating a more sustainable garden in this hands-on workshop led by Tyler Arboretum’s Pollinator Preserve Coordinator, Nancy Heinbaugh.
Learn about the native plants that attract bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds and which species serve as essential host plants for butterflies. With step-by-step guidance, you’ll transform a simple gallon container into a native seed planter to take home, along with tips on how to nurture your seedlings and prepare them for spring transplanting.
What to Bring: A clean, transparent or semi-transparent gallon milk or water jug. All other materials—soil, seeds, and detailed instructions—will be provided.
Where to Meet: Check in at the Visitor Center, then enjoy a short, 5-minute walk to the Edible Garden Classroom. Please arrive early to allow time for the walk, as class begins promptly at noon.
Take this first step toward creating a pollinator-friendly garden while learning from an expert in the field! (INCLEMENT WEATHER DATE: Saturday, Feb 1: 12-2 pm. You will be notified of any rescheduling 48 hours in advance, so please keep an eye on your email.)
MEMBERS (sign in for your discount!): Adults: $15 each; Teens (ages 15-17): $10 each. A registered adult must accompany all teens.
NON-MEMBERS: Adults: $25 each; Teens (ages 15-17): $17 each. A registered adult must accompany all teens. The fee includes admission to the Arboretum, so feel free to stay for the day!
GUEST PASS HOLDERS (for non-members only): Adults: $15 each; Teens (ages 15-17): $10 each. A registered adult must accompany all teens. Please submit your guest passes to the Visitor Center Associate at check-in.
