Then in November 2024, the Department of Energy published its analysis of the environmental, economic, and public health impact of liquified natural gas (LNG) exports which showed the danger it poses to the American people. When our state legislature is considering a bill, it gets referred to a subcommittee; often that subcommittee will host hearings with local experts to help legislators understand the issue at hand and potential impacts of the legislation on the table. Our state’s House Environmental Committee has an important upcoming hearing happening locally that you should join if you’re able to!

Key speakers will discuss the impacts of House Bill 109, which would increase what applicants need to provide and produce to acquire a permit from the Department of Environmental Protection. This includes producing a cumulative impact report, aka taking into account existing pollution in the area, as well as much-needed increased public participation opportunities for residents to give feedback. If you want to learn more – join the hearing if you can!
