Public Works Perspectives-Winter Salt Week

January 29 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm EST

January 27–31 is Winter Salt Week, a multistate effort to raise awareness about the harms of road salt. Stroud Water Research Center is leading the charge in the mid-Atlantic region, helping dozens of organizations sample streams and tell the story of road salt in their communities.

New Jersey – 1:30pm ET

Rich Balgowan has over 35 years of experience working with state DOTs and municipalities. Rich will share his experiences with smart salting practices in Hamilton Township in Mercer County, where they utilize anti-icing, GPS-tracking, and pavement temperature sensors on all salt applicator trucks to reduce total salt use. (NJ is the closest location giving a presentation on this topic)
