Carol Butler

Chair of Environmental Committee

Carol has 17 years of experience in environmental issues, and currently holds the position of Environmental Program Specialist at the Pennsylvania Resources Council located in Media. She holds a B.A. and an M.B.A. from West Chester University. Carol is passionate about the environment and worked with the Climate Project for 10 years educating communities on climate change.  In her current role, she presents information about waste reduction, recycling, composting, and greener life styles.

She is interested in history and serves on the Board of Directors for the 1696 Thomas Massey House and, also serves as a Board member on the Central Delaware County League of Women Voters.

Deborah Bergen

Committee Member

Debbie Bergen has been a member of the League of Women Voters of Central Delaware County (LWV-CDC) for 16 years and has increased her involvement since her 2021 retirement.  Her career was focused on residential curbside recycling which included interactions with local, county and state governments as well as the solid waste industry.  As a member of LWV-CDC Debbie is involved in both the Environmental Committee and with voter registration events at community gatherings and Naturalization Ceremonies, which she finds very gratifying.

Christine Coleman Crosby

Overseer Christine Coleman Crosby is married to Rev. Willie D. Crosby since June 7, 2023, and has one son William (deceased; however once a Mother always a Mother), Trinity Chapter 79 OES PHA Commonwealth Of PA, Pyramid Ct 17 Oasis Of Philadelphia Desert Of PA (Daughters Of Isis) and Founder And Pastor Of Fellowship Of Love Outreach Baptist Church in Chester, PA. Christine comes to our work with a passion for our stewardship of the environment.

David Director

Committee Member

A retired software engineer with a lifelong passion for energy efficiency and sustainability, David is a founding member of the Delaware County Sustainability Commission, where he continues to advocate for policies to advance the “triple bottom line” of People, Planet, and Profits. David is a long-time Delco resident currently living in Media, and is a graduate of Upper Darby High and the University of Pennsylvania.

Jim Furst

Committee Member

Jim has 37 years of IT and software development experience. He holds a BS Degree in Computer Science from Allegheny College.  With a wide range of experience in commercial work, he’s interested in working to show factual information about the environment and learning how to reverse the damage we humans have produced.  He’s also interested in plans and actions that will help our communities’ air, water and waste management, and also in renewable energy and how we can implement it.

Jodine Mayberry

Committee Member

Jodine Mayberry is a retired journalist who worked at Westlaw for 28 years where she wrote newsletters on litigation and regulation of the environment and toxic chemicals.  She also serves as the legislative advocate for the LWV of Central Delaware County and writes and edits the LWVCDC Voter newsletter.  She lives in Brookhaven.

John Shaw

Committee Member

Dr. Shaw studied engineering at Princeton and MIT. He was awarded highest honors at Princeton. He was with The Boeing Company for 33 years, where he performed research, managed research, and served as Chief Scientist for rotorcraft. He has worked with the League of Women Voters for 10 years, focusing on environmental issues like pipelines and liquefied natural gas.

Olivia Thorne

Committee Member

Olivia Thorne has been a League member for more than 40 years in almost every capacity and sees herself as a passionate activist. She served on the national League Board of the League of Women Voters from 2000-2006 focusing on League websites and Vote411, the state League Board twice: 1987-1993 focusing on Membership recruiting and training and 2009-2013 years as state President years when the League focused on Marcellous Shale drilling and Photo ID. Olivia has been  President of the Delaware County League since 2014 and thrilled to be part of developing the Environmental Clearinghouse.

Roberta Winters

Committee Member

Roberta Winters is currently on the Board of the Delco ILO and past president of the LWV of Radnor Township.  She served two terms on the Board of LWVPA where she was environmental point-person and later vice-president for issues and action. Her advocacy work has been focused on natural gas operations from Marcellus Shale and pipelines.  At the 2022 national LWV convention, she introduced a resolution on the “climate emergency” that was adopted by delegates from throughout the country. As a retired elementary teacher with a science background, she has a knack for simplifying complex issues to promote public understanding.
